“1845: Methodist[s] buy land between Joseph [now Mississauga Road] and Peter Streets in Port Credit and the church members, both Indian and non-Indian, erect a new church at a cost of little over $50 since the timbers were cut, the foundation built, and the labour provided locally. Between 1845 and 1895 the congregation grew as pioneers steadily hewed farms out the surrounding wilderness.”
