In 1875, the Carman Church in Clarkson was dedicated. “The choice of a name for the new church … posed no problem. The Rev. Albert Carman, an outstanding leader of the Methodist Church in Canada, had been elected Bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1874. He had long been a friend of Mrs. Margaret Merigold, a leader in the community for many years who owned the corner lot on which the church was built. It was natural therefore that the name “Carman” should be chosen.”
