Music Camp

Music Camp is a two-week camp that runs from Monday to Friday, July 6-17, 2026. We offer various music experiences based on age, ability, and interest.

For our younger campers, we offer an early childhood music experience - students will explore rhythm, melody, and other elements of music using age appropriate instruments and activities.

Campers who are born in 2015/entering grade 4 and older will participate in our instrumental program (woodwinds, brass, or percussion) and will learn and play together as an ensemble. There are also fun electives offered throughout the day, which campers can select for themselves, including sports, games, crafts, and other non-band instruments.

FAQs

I noticed the age has changed for Music Camp - why?

In the past, the minimum age for participating in Music Camp was 4 years old. We are aware that two intensive weeks of music camp is simply beyond the capacity of most 4 and 5 year olds. In order to maintain a high quality of camp, where staff can be focused on excellent music programming, we have decided to raise the minimum age requirement to 6 years old.

There is an exception to this: if your child was previously enrolled in Music Camp, and is in the 5 year old cohort, they will be invited to return to band camp this summer. New campers in the 5 age range will need to wait until they are 6 to enroll.

What programs are offered?

Music Camp runs programming for two different age groups to best fit each child’s ability. We aim to meet every child at their own experience level.

Music Appreciation Program: This is for children ages 6-8. In the Music Appreciation Program, campers will sing, dance, and play instruments as they discover music together. Campers will learn about rhythm, the basics of musical notation, instrumentation, and more.

Band Program: This is for children who will be entering Grade 4 in September 2026 and older. In the Band Program, campers will select a band instrument (woodwind, brass or percussion) to learn and play as an ensemble. No experience is required. Campers are encouraged to bring their instruments home to practice each evening.

What electives are available?

Campers will have the opportunity to select their own electives that are of interest to them. The elective offerings change each year, but in the past, they have included board games, nature club, sports, crafts, and other instrumental learning (ukulele, handbells). Electives will be selected before the first day of camp.

Is Music Camp a Christian Camp?

While Music Camp is run at Christ First United Church, the programming offered is not religious. We welcome people of any faith tradition.

Are snacks provided?

There will be no snacks or lunch provided by our team. Campers are responsible for bringing their own lunch and snacks each day, as well as a refillable water bottle. Please be mindful that we have campers with allergies, so please do not bring any food with peanuts or tree nuts.

Will there be a camp concert?

At the end of our two weeks together, our campers will showcase all their hard work in a Camp Concert! All family and friends are invited to watch! Our 2026 camp concert will be held on Friday, July 17th at 3pm.
