46 Days Until The UCC Anniversary

Did you know there’s a cabinet full of treasures at the Port Credit Campus? On the stage in Peter Jones Hall, there is a display of mementos of the First United congregation, including trophies, silver plates, collection plates, gavels and so much more. The trophies may surprise you, but they harken back to the days of Church League sports play. For example, there’s a trophy labelled “Port Credit and District Inter-Church Basket-Ball Junior Challenge Cup” with badges showing the “Port Credit United Church” won the cup in four times between 1927 and 1934, beating out other congregations such as St. Andrews (Presbyterian) and Trinity (now Trinity-St Paul) Anglican. Similarly, there is a choir trophy – the “Harry L McMurchy Trophy Peel Music Festival” from 1936 for the “Annual Choir Competition” with wins recorded in 1939, 40 and 41!
